MINIATURES (from 2018)
My foray into miniature art came with Vicki’s 2018 May challenge. Presented with a sheet of paper containing the calendar month of May and a random word or two on each day of that month, the idea was that we didn’t let a day go by without being at least a little bit creative.
Not wanting to waste 31 sheets of A4 watercolour paper, I decided to complete this project on a very small scale, and although many of these miniatures weren’t worthy of a second look (I was right not to work on a larger scale), some of them were. So …
With Vicki’s encouragement I joined the Australian Society of Miniature Art (ASMA) in 2018, having realised how much I enjoyed creating these little pieces.
According to the ASMA definition, the perimeter of a two-dimensional miniature work must not exceed 40cm. It ‘can convey all the beauty and power of a larger work of art but has the added appeal of being a particularly personal object. The viewer must see the work at close range to obtain a full appreciation of both the image and technique’.
Unless noted otherwise, the miniatures below are available for purchase. Please drop me an email.
