LOCAL GEMS (2022)
‘Local Gems’ came about as a result of two things – first, an invitation to return to Marie-France where my series ‘Postcards from Paris’ was on show last December; and second, having to decide what I would paint for this next show.
That decision didn’t take long! The invitation had come not long after I’d won the 2021 Member for Bradfield Art Prize with my painting ‘Mist over Bobbin Head’, so I decided to continue on that theme, travelling not far from home to find inspiration in abundance within Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.
Whereas ‘Postcards from Paris’ displayed a series of works that focused on the enchanting architecture in the French capital, ‘Local Gems’ takes us back to nature – to our own backyard here in Ku-ring-gai – capturing some of these beautiful natural spaces.
For Marie-France, all the paintings were miniatures, but below you will also find a few larger pieces I have completed since.
