GONE WEST (2021)
After a trip to the heart of our extraordinary country in 2019, I completed a series of paintings which included a small number of works I called ‘Postcards from Central Australia’ (see the Gallery page, ‘From the Heart’). I loved painting them. I loved painting on this small scale and I loved that, as I painted, I was transported back to the Red Centre.
So I got to thinking about extending my ‘Postcards from …’ series, which is how the idea for this exhibition, which was held at The Village Kitchen in Kurrajong, unfolded. The plan was to create ‘Postcards from the Blue Mountains and beyond’, and while most of the paintings at Kurrajong belonged to that little postcard series, I expanded the collection so that some of the pieces were a little larger.
