My travels provide constant inspiration for my painting, in particular the unique architecture that helps define a place. Some buildings, like the beautiful Troldhaugen, are immediately striking. The 19th-century residence was the summer home of Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg for the last 22 years of his life. Troldhaugen was designed by Grieg’s cousin and architect Schak Bull and was completed in 1885. It is beautifully situated on a hill overlooking Nordås Lake in Norway, and is now a living history museum, open to the public and housing Grieg’s Steinway.
